Just a short distance upstream from this iconic Prague monument, the restaurant boat Kristian Marco lay at anchor. It could not be moved to safety in time, creating a catastrophic risk that the powerful current would hurl it directly into the Charles Bridge.
“Back then, we were deciding whether to secure it or blow it up. In the end, we anchored it with the help of heavy military equipment. I will never forget that the very first tank that arrived to help us was privately owned,” the Prague Mayor at the time, Igor Němec, recalled for the Metro daily.

It was Jiří Kunc who tracked down and secured that private tank. As always, he didn’t look for obstacles; he looked for solutions. Leveraging his connections within the Czech military community, he rapidly sourced the necessary machinery and arranged for its transport to Prague so that the massive floating restaurant could be safely anchored to it.
