Historical Legacy and Mission

The ability to remember the past and learn from it is one of the cornerstones of our civilization. It is thanks to this that we have managed to overcome everything that history has brought upon us and our ancestors. And it is solely because of this that we can be right here, right now. We, the members of the Military Heritage Society of the Czech Republic, aim to keep this historical legacy alive. We firmly believe that by remembering and preserving our military past, we can support our peaceful future.

Professional Auspices: The Military History Institute Prague

The Military Heritage Society of the Czech Republic was officially registered in 2021. However, its foundations run much deeper. Ideologically, it carries on the work of the legendary Club CI-5 and, above all, its founder, retired Captain Jiří Kunc. It was around him that a great group of people formed—individuals who held a steadfast belief in civil liberties and strong moral principles. Yet, the roots of our association reach even further back into the past.

In our activities, we draw upon the legacy of Captain Jiří Kunc—above all, his tireless efforts to engage civil society in national defense. It was he who stood at the very birth of the Active Reserve project. Thanks to him, we are a long-standing and respected partner of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic.

The core mission of the Military Heritage Society of the Czech Republic is not only to raise awareness and bring the history and major military events of our nation closer to the general public. We also aim to initiate the active participation of citizens in the areas of domestic and foreign national security, general military readiness, assistance, and solidarity, with a strong emphasis on volunteer work. To this end, we organize cultural, sporting, educational, and social events, while establishing an economic foundation to achieve our goals.

Join Us in Lešany on Saturday, May 30!

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Military Technical Museum Lešany will launch its 31st visitor season with a “Military Readiness Day for Children.” The rich program will offer competitive stations, displays of historical and contemporary military equipment, presentations by the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic and military history clubs, as well as exciting rides in selected vehicles.

Association at the 2026 Defense Readiness Conference. The Creation of the Active Reserve of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic Examined by Historians for the First Time!

Representatives of the Association of Military History of the Czech Republic attended the “Faces of Defense Readiness” conference, organized by the Military History Institute Prague. During the opening, Minister of Defense Jaromír Zůna highlighted the importance of civic responsibility and volunteer associations for the state’s defense capability. Our Association was the initiator and partner of the final panel titled “22 Years of the Active Reserve of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic,” which, according to the event organizers, was the most spirited of all. Speakers included Pavel Mücke from the Military History Institute Prague, Brigadier General Petr Svoboda from the Territorial Forces of the Czech Armed Forces, and Radek Hauerland from the Defence and Security Industry Association of the Czech Republic.
